Alberta Government House
This gracious sandstone building was opened in 1913 as the residence of Alberta's Lieutenant Governors. The mansion was closed in 1938. Used as a WWII veterans' hospital from 1944 to 1950, it became a home for disabled veterans in 1951. Following extensive restoration in 1975, Government House was reopened in 1976 as the province's official government conference centre. Free tours every half hour. Open Sun only 1 pm - 5 pm.

Alberta Legislature Building
Surrounded by 57 acres of parkland, this beautiful building is a must see for those interested in architecture, politics and history. Completed in 1912 on the site of the original Fort Edmonton, the building features an interpretive centre and gift shop. Free admission and guided tours.

Chinatown & Avenue of Nations
The impressive Chinatown Gate downtown at 102 Avenue and 97 Street welcomes visitors to the hub of the Chinese community. The gate was built as a symbol of friendship between Edmonton and its sister city, Harbin. Don't forget to roll the ball in the lion's mouth for good luck! "e;New"e; Chinatown runs eastward along 102 Avenue to 95 Street and south to Jasper Avenue (the Edmonton Chinatown Multicultural Centre is here). "e;Original"e; Chinatown extends north on 97 Street from 105 to 108 Avenue.

City Hall
Opened in 1992, Edmonton's City Hall combines modern architecture with elements from the old City Hall it replaced (built in the '50s). Features include a glass pyramid top as well as a soaring friendship tower that has a 40,000-pound, 23-bell carillon that can play up to 99 melodies. An expansive collection of art by Alberta artists is on display, and visitors are welcome at the many activities held here. Edmonton Art Gallery
One of Alberta's oldest cultural institutions, the Edmonton Art Gallery houses over 4,000 historical and contemporary paintings, sculptures, prints, installation works and photographs with a strong emphasis on Alberta art. The Children's Gallery offers unique interactive activities for children of all ages. Gallery shop and cafe open daily. Edmonton Radial Railway Society
The Edmonton Radial Railway Society operates a daily streetcar service for visitors to Fort Edmonton. Visitors can visit the streetcar barn and see restoration in progress on these historic vehicles. The society also operates a streetcar service across the high level bridge on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 11 AM to 6 PM from May to October. The streetcar travels from Old Strathcona to the Alberta Ledgislature building on a half hour service.

Edmonton Space & Science Centre
A multi-purpose facility containing state-of-the-art theatres and sound system, an observatory, exhibit galleries,Dow Computer Lab, Ham Radio Station, Science Magic Gift Shop, a cafe and concession. Two major attractions are the Margaret Zeilder Star Theatre, which houses the largest planetarium dome in western Canada and the IMAX Theatre, which places viewers at the centre of the action with its powerful audio/visual capabilities. The exhibit galleries house exciting travelling and permanent exhibits and also features live science demonstrations. Self guided tours available year-round. Elk Island National Park
Established in 1906 as Canada's first federal wildlife sanctuary, Elk Island is open year-round. The park is rich in lakes and wetland foliage, and is home to herds of elk, bison and moose. It features a Ukrainian pioneer home, the Astotin Interpretive Centre, a golf course, campground and hiking trails. $4 adults, $3 seniors, $2 child, $8 group.

Elk Island National Park

Father Lacombe Chapel
Built in 1861 by Father Lacombe and his Metis helpers, the original log chapel and the St. Albert Mission provide insight into the past of the Canadian West. This Provincial Historic Site is the oldest building in Alberta. Admission: $2 adult, $1.50 senior/youth, $5 family, free for children 6 and under. Open May 15 to Sept 1 daily 10 am - 6 pm.

Fort Edmonton Park
It’s living history at its best! Join the costumed historical interpreters and try your hand at living life as a fur trader or early pioneer in Edmonton. You’ll experience life as it was at the 1846 fort and on the streets of 1885, 1905 and 1920. High Level Bridge Street Car
Ride through eclectic Old Strathcona on one of Edmonton's historic street cars via the top deck of High Level Bridge. Open during the summer, operates every 30 minutes.

High Level Bridge Streetcar .
Ride across the High Level Bridge from Old Strathcona (85 Ave/104 St) to Grandin LRT Station (98 Ave/109 St) on a vintage 1921-built streetcar. Runs every day until Thanksgiving 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Leaves Strathcona on the hour and half hour; Grandin at 15 and 45 min. past the hour. Last round trip departs Strathcona at 3:30 p.m. (Operated by Edmonton Radial Railway Society Volunteers).

John Janzen Nature Centre
Discover Edmonton naturally through environmental programs for all ages offered at this centre nestled in the heart of the River Valley Park System. Interactive displays, interpretive programs and self-guided birch-tree and river loop nature trails are highlights. Permanent exhibits include a bee display, frogs, fish, snakes and salamanders. Muttart Conservatory
The dramatic glass pyramids that rise up from Edmonton's river valley house a world of flowers and vegetation. The tropical pyramid is a rain forest featuring plants from one of North America's largest collections of orchid species. The show pyramid features seasonal floral exhibits. Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium

Old Strathcona Historic Area
Historical buildings date from 1891, prior to amalgamation of Strathcona Town with the City of Edmonton in 1912. Known for its exuberant spirit, this south side district is an attractive shopping destination.
